Objective To investigate the reliability and validity of Chinese version of Public Attitudes Toward Epilepsy (PATE) Scale.Methods The standard procedure of cross-culture adaptation was used to develop the Chinese version of PATE Scale. A total of 210 Han Chinese adults with economic and cultural representativeness from Changsha, Hunan Province, were selected using convenience sampling. The reliability and validity of the Chinese version of scale were analyzed.Results A total of 199 valid questionnaires were returned, with a response rate of 94.7%, and the average answering time for the questionnaire was 7 min. The mean age of the 199 respondents was 33.75 years, which was economically and culturally representative. Each item of the scale was significantly correlated with the field it belonged to, and the scale was not significantly correlated with other fields. Exploratory factor analysis and confirmatory factor analysis showed that the Chinese version and the original scale were similar in structure, and the Cronbach's Alpha coefficients of each filed and the scale was 0.853-0.909.Conclusions The Chinese version of PATE Scale has good reliability and validity, and it can be used in the survey of public attitudes toward epilepsy.
